I understand the challenges of learning a foreign language―I spent my high-school days in an American school, where I learned not just grammar and vocabulary but how to live the language through real communication. That experience shapes the way I teach today: clear, practical, and focused on helping you use Japanese confidently in everyday life.

Each class emphasizes clarity, confidence, and real-world application. As a working interpreter, I incorporate current expressions, business etiquette, and cultural understanding that textbooks often overlook. She discovered her passion for English in junior high school and immersed herself in the language from an early age, listening to radio English programs every day. With a strong natural ear for sound, she developed clear and accurate pronunciation through intensive listening. Inspired by American music and films, she left Onomichi, Hiroshima, and moved to the U.S., where she spent her high school days and gained firsthand exposure to English and American culture. After returning to Japan, she majored in English at a university faculty of foreign languages and later worked in higher education. She then completed professional interpreter training at the Icthus Interpreter School. Driven by a desire to improve language education, she has been actively involved in reform-oriented English education in Japan and in Japanese-language education for non-native speakers. She is widely praised for her clear, structured explanations and warm, approachable teaching style, making her especially popular with international students. She has been strongly influenced by Dr. Eleanor Jorden of Yale University, the developer of the Jorden Method, and brings that influence into her own teaching. Her work emphasizes practical communication, sound-based learning, and learner-centered instruction that produce real, lasting results.

Matsumoto-sensei is good at adjusting her teaching to each student’s level, which makes it easier to build vocabulary steadily and improve grammar. Through our conversations, her openness to a wide range of topics, and her patience as a teacher, I've gained the confidence to travel around Japan and communicate with local people more comfortably. I honestly don't think I would have come this far in my Japanese studies without her, and I would recommend her class to anyone serious about learning.

I used to study in a strictly monolingual Japanese class, but I often couldn't grasp complex explanations or subtle nuances. With Miho-sennsei, I can move forward with clarity because she uses English when it truly helps. She explains not just what expressions mean, but how they're used in real Japanese social contexts, and gives plenty of guided practice. With her training as a conference interpreter, her instruction is precise and high-level. Without her help, passing the JLPT N1 would have taken me far longer - easily tentimes the effort.
